Who are Nowack

Oliver Nowack started Nowack Autotechnik & Tuning in 1994, and this relatively young company has already established an enviable reputation as a leading exponent of engine management system tuning.

This rapid progress is not surprising really, as Oliver has a good teacher - his father, Hans Nowack. Arguably one of the best known BMW master mechanics in the business, in his race mechanic days, Hans built the Chevron race car for Paul Rosche as well as the Brabham BT52 for Nelson Piquet.

Officially retired in 1999, Hans was one of the pioneers of chip tuning in Germany. Most people would say that chip tuning came to the fore in the mid 1980s, but long before that, Hans was quietly manipulating numbers on his computer, making early BMWs with ECUs work with his modified engines.

Hans built all the successful race cars for former German Touring car ace, Helmut Kelleners. He worked with Helmut even before he set up his own BMW dealership, Böhm & Kelleners. Then as Chief Engineer, he devised the engine conversions for Kelleners Sport, including the successful K3 and K3S conversions (E30 with 260bhp 3.5-litre six) in the early 1980s. Helmut’s son, GT driver, Ralf, now runs Kelleners Sport.

By rights, Hans should now be sitting on a beach or writing his memoirs. But like all true car nuts, he just can’t stop, and so you can find him at Nowack Autotechnik & Tuning everyday.
